Our focus is on understanding and analyzing the psychological and social factors that influence purchasing decisions in order to develop sound marketing strategies.
Our Teaching
We provide our students with a deep understanding of the psychological, social, and cultural factors that influence consumer behavior. They learn how these insights can be used to develop targeted marketing strategies and predict market trends. In addition, quantitative and qualitative research methods are taught to systematically analyze consumer behavior and optimize the efficiency of marketing measures.
Our courses will be available starting in the summer semester of 2025.

B.Sc. Thesis

General Information
As a student at the Faculty of Business Administration at LMU, you have the opportunity to write your bachelor's thesis at our institute. We offer a range of research questions that are assigned to specific thematic blocks within the scope of our research and teaching.
Application
- The following documents and information have to be submitted before the deadline via the application form: (1) curriculum vitae, (2) transcript of records, and (3) one-page letter of motivation.
- Application Deadlines

- Thesis Processing Time (2 weeks pre-readings, 8 weeks writing):

Formal Requirements
- Theoretical and empirical theses
- 70.000 characters (incl. spaces, without bibliography and appendix) and presentation in colloquium
- 30 ECTS
- Processing time 8 weeks
- The thesis must be presented in our bachelor thesis colloquium.

Colloquium
When you register your thesis, we will enroll you in the Moodle course for the Bachelor Colloquium. From this point on, your presence at every meeting of the colloquium is mandatory, even if you do not present yourself. If you are ever unable to attend, please inform your supervisor well in advance by email. In the second half of the eight-week processing period, you will present your results in a 15-minute colloquium. The purpose of the colloquium is to obtain feedback on the current status of your work and to clarify open questions regarding the further course of your work. The presentation in the colloquium on the agreed date is obligatory. This is followed by a Q&A session. The presentation will be evaluated (pass/fail) but not graded. You must pass it.

Submission of the B.Sc. Thesis
Final theses are submitted to the ISC. Please inform yourself about the modalities on the ISC website. In addition, please send an electronic version of the thesis and all results (data sets, syntax files, Excel files, etc.) to your supervisor via wetransfer.
On the day of submission, the student must submit the printed version of the thesis (two copies) and an electronic version through https://www.isc.uni-muenchen.de/abgabe_abschlussarbeiten/index.html by noon (12:00).

- If you would like to propose your own topic, please provide a detailed description of the topic, the methodology you intend to apply, and the scientific literature relevant to your topic (maximum of two pages, excluding references).
- The number of students accepted to write a thesis depends on the available capacity at the Professorship of Marketing with a Focus on Consumer Behavior. In addition, please check the ISC website for the examination requirements of your program of study.

Letter of recommendation
For a letter of recommendation, we need to be able to assess you personally. In addition to a GPA better than 2.5, at least one of the following criteria must also apply to you:
- Attendance of a seminar or project course at the Professorship of Marketing with a Focus on Consumer Behavior
- Completion of your thesis at the at the Professorship of Marketing with a Focus on Consumer Behavior.
- Employment as a student assistant at the Professorship of Marketing with a Focus on Consumer Behavior.
Please note that attending our lectures or lectures at the Professorship of Marketing with a Focus on Consumer Behavior is not sufficient to request a letter of recommendation.
Make sure to include all necessary documents with your request and send your application to mcb@som.lmu.de. Processing may take up to four weeks.
To prepare the recommendation letter, please send us the following documents along with your request:
- Purpose of the recommendation letter
- Justification for choosing our professorship
- Name of the person supervising you at our chair
- Current transcript of records
