Prizes & Awards for Excellent Research: Recognition for Outstanding Achievements at LMU Munich School of Management

LMU Munich School of Management is proud to have received numerous prizes and awards in recent years. Our researchers and faculty have been recognized for their outstanding achievements in a wide range of categories as well as for their innovative projects and commitment. The awards are a testament to the fact that the work of our faculty is of the highest international standard and that we are constantly striving to improve our performance to enrich the academic community and society at large.

Some of our awards include the Best Paper Award. It is awarded for outstanding conference papers and the best scientific paper, monograph or original article.

Best Paper Award

The Best Paper Award is given for the best scientific paper, monograph or original article, published or accepted for publication by a publisher or journal in the year prior to the submission deadline. Awards are also given for conference papers.

05/2023 - Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c.. Marko Sarstedt received the William R. Darden Best Research Methodology Paper Award of the Academy of Marketing Science (AMS) for his co-authored paper "Quantifying Model Selection Uncertainty via Bootstrapping and Akaike Weights: A Multimodel Inference Approach."

Exploring the differential and interaction effects of contractual and relational governance mechanisms 12/2022 - Prof. Johann Kranz erhielt für seine Studie "Strategic innovation in IT outsourcing: Exploring the differential and interaction effects of contractual and relational governance mechanisms" (to the study) den Best Paper Runners-up Award des Journal of Strategic Information Systems.

Measuring Tax Complexity across Countries – A Survey Based Approach - For their paper Measuring Tax Complexity across Countries - A Survey Based Approach, Prof. Deborah Schanz and Susann Sturm from the Institute for Taxation and Accounting, together with co-authors Professor Sureth-Sloane and Thomas Hoppe from the University of Paderborn, received the award for the best conference paper at the VHB annual conference.

Mobile Advertising: A Framework and Research Agenda- Prof. Spann, along with his co-authors, won the 2016 Best Published Article Award in the Journal of Interactive Marketing for the paper Mobile Advertising: A Framework and Research Agenda.

How do News Media Influence Perception of Corporate Reputation – an Empirical Investigation of Media Topics, their Amount and Valence - The Best Paper Award at the Global Marketing Conference 2016 went to Johanna Eberhardt and Manfred Schwaiger for the contribution How do News Media Influence Perception of Corporate Reputation – an Empirical Investigation of Media Topics, their Amount and Valence.

Social Ties and Quality Signals – Lessons from the Migration of East German Inventors - In 2016, Dietmar Harhoff, together with S. Bender, M. Dorner, T. Hinz aand K. Hoisl, received the Academy of Management TIM Best Paper Award for the contribution Social Ties and Quality Signals – Lessons from the Migration of East German Inventors im Rahmen des Academy of Management Meeting, Anaheim.

Samuel Mühlemanner, together with Harald Pfeifer, received the Swiss Leading House Best Paper Award 2016 for the article The Structure of Hiring Costs in Germany, published in: Industrial Relations, 55(2),193-218.

#1 in Business Administration

The faculty also regularly receives awards for its study program in business administration. In the latest ranking, it achieved first place among faculties in Germany. LMU also regularly receives awards for its research and teaching and is also at the top level in international comparisons.
