An in-depth qualitative analysis of IT professionals illuminates the precise coping tactics that sustain collaboration under hostile conditions. At the core of this dynamic is a situational balance: professionals depoliticize cooperation in situations “at work,” yet politicize it during moments “about work.” Theorized as “conflict-situated cooperation,” this framework fundamentally advances the understanding of how individuals safeguard professional relationships and forge meaning amidst existential threat, societal polarization, and deep-rooted distrust.
