Course confirmations must state that you passed the course. Syllabi are not valid course confirmations.

  • Fill out the Course Reporting (PDF, 184 KB) form with:
    • The name of your A/II project
    • 8 SWS worth of B/I courses (please list semester names instead of numbers, e.g., "WS 2023/24" instead of "Semester n° 4")
    • 8 SWS worth of B/II courses (own teaching counts double the SWS)
    • Signature of your PhD supervisor
  • Fill out the Presentations & Reports (PDF, 175 KB) form with:
    • Seven seminars of at least two different series with a maximum of three pure online seminars (like VIDE)
    • Date of attendance and confirmation of P&R kickoff attendance (screenshot if online)
    • Name of the paper on which you wrote your Referee Report & date of handing in the report
    • You must attach confirmations of attendance (signature for in-person talks or a screen-shot for remote talks), and an attendance certificate/email for the Kick-off of the module.
    • Send these documents to MBR-Reports and receive an email from the lecturer currently in charge of P&R confirming that you completed all elements of P&R and passed the module.
  • Hand in both original forms to the Head of the Examination Board. For all reported courses, include written confirmations (e.g., certificate, email, signature) of passing that also mention the Credits (ECTS) or SWS (Contact hours) of the course. For external courses, also include the email confirming that the course can be recognized. For Presentations & Reports additionally include the email from the lecturer of P&R confirming that you completed all elements of P&R and passed the module.
    • Hand in in person – not by email, mail or internal mail – at the office of the MBR study coordinator (Schackstr. 4/III) during the regular visiting hours
    • Note: If you have already completed the M.Sc. in Business Administration at LMU, please also bring a copy of your Master's certificate including the Transcript of Records.

  • Certain courses, such as high-quality summer schools, research-relevant workshops at other universities, VHB ("Verband der Hochschullehrerinnen und Hochschullehrer für Betriebswirtschaft") courses or some TUM courses (PDF, 215 KB), can be recognized as B/I or B/II courses depending on type.
  • To get such a course recognized for your MBR:
    • Send the syllabus of the course or summer school, including ECTS and hours, to our email, before attending.
    • Receive an answer detailing whether the course or summer school can be recognized, and the SWS assigned to it.
    • Save the email in question as confirmation for your Course Reporting.
    • Attend the course or summer school. Please do not forget to retain proof of successful attendance/passing as confirmation for your Course Reporting.
  • Note: In case you want to attend a relevant summer school, you may apply for financial assistance (travel/registration/etc.) via our Support page.

Double recognition of courses is strictly not possible. "Double recognition" refers to counting a course for two finished degrees. This means that, if you already possess a finished Master's degree or equivalent, you will not be able to get courses from that degree recognized for the MBR.

The final grade of the MBR is calculated from the grades obtained in the courses in Module A/I and the grade of the project study.

For grades-related inquiries not concerning a singular course, please contact Oliver Mocker (mocker@lmu.de) or see the FAQ for details. For inquiries concerning the grade of a particular course, please contact that course's lecturer.

Of the six courses taken in Module A/I, the four best grades count towards the final MBR grade, each weighted with 1/7. The grade of the project study counts for 3/7 of the final grade.

The MBR diploma will also mention the grades of all six courses from Module A/I as well as the titles of all the courses from Modules A/II, B/I, B/II, and the title of the project study (Module C).

According to the faculty's regulations for doctoral degrees, the MBR replaces the oral exam in the PhD process. According to §19 of the regulations, the final MBR grade counts for 1/3 of the final PhD grade. The grade for the dissertation thesis counts for the other two thirds.

The best possible grade for a dissertation thesis is 0.5 and the best possible MBR grade is 1.0. Therefore, the best possible grade for a PhD at the Munich School of Management is 0.66 ("summa cum laude", cf. §19(4) of the doctoral degree regulations).
