Brief introduction

Business Education I & II

From the first semester onwards, basic methodology and new scientific findings are taught within the framework of lectures and exercises that are relevant to research, so that students can carry out research projects independently. In the area of business education research, further deepening takes place through specific project work.

Business education also prepares students for a possible later occupation at vocational schools, so that practical school studies are obligatory. Further reference to teaching is provided by the "University School" project financed by the Bavarian State Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs.

Career prospects

  • The Master's degree program in Business Education I and II, which qualifies students for the profession, entitles them to enter the study seminar for commercial schools, the so-called Referendariat (traineeship).
  • Graduates who do not pursue a career as a teacher have the opportunity to work in the field of in-company training and continuing education or as consultants for business associations and chambers of commerce.
  • After graduation, you will also be able to start a career in business administration, since you will receive a sound education in business administration in addition to the content of business education.
  • The connection to research in all economic fields is also a possibility for you after your studies.

Applying for the Master courses in Business Education I & II

You can apply for the Master's program in Business Administration at the LMU Munich School of Management if you have a first professional university degree in a field of economics or an equivalent degree from Germany or abroad. The LMU Munich School of Management will review your application in a faculty-specific suitability procedure. Important are, above all, in addition to a very good knowledge of business education, business and economic knowledge and a very good command of German and English, both written and spoken. Furthermore, a high level of cognitive skills such as the ability to abstract and problem-solve is required.

The eligibility process is conducted by a selection committee appointed by the Faculty Council of the LMU Munich School of Management.

Application process as graphic

1. Timely and complete application

Admission to the suitability procedure requires that all necessary documents are submitted on time. The complete application (including receipt of the written application by the Student Office, ISC) with proof of the required admission prerequisites (see What do I need for a successful application?) must be submitted by May 15. Accepted applicants will be invited to take the entrance exam. If a GMAT test is available, it will replace the entrance exam. The result of the GMAT test must be submitted together with the other application documents

Exception: Applicants who have submitted a diploma or transcript of records from a first degree program in Business Education II with an average grade of 1.0 or better will be classified as "suitable" and admitted directly to the selection interview. This provision applies only to major II.

2. Entrance examination

The entrance examination consists of six parts in total, which are asked in multiple-choice format (5-3-1 rule).

  • Research Methods (One part)
  • HRE&M I (One part)
  • HRE&M II (One part)
  • HRE&M III (One part)
  • Two of six possible ABWLs (Risk Management, Corporate Accounting, Digital Enterprise, Competition and Strategy, People and Organization, International Management).

Please see our fact sheet for the underlying literature for the business education portion and general information (in German) (PDF, 138 KB) about the test process.

The underlying literature for the two ABWLs of your choice can be found in the information sheet for the Master's entrance examination in Business Administration (in German) (PDF, 333 KB). The ABWL part tested for the Master's in Business Education is identical to the ABWL part for the Master's in Business Administration.

This year's entrance examination will probably take place at the beginning of June.

3. Selection interview

After passing the entrance exam or a GMAT test (≥ 600 points), you will be invited to participate in a selection interview. You will be notified of the exact date of the interview by e-mail at least two weeks in advance. The admission decision to the master's program and, if applicable, information on enrollment will subsequently be communicated in writing. Only applications that are complete in terms of the aptitude statutes and received on time have a legal right to be admitted to the examination procedure for admission to the master's program.

Important note: Anyone who does not appear at the appointed time is considered to be ineligible. Reasons to justify the absence for which the candidate is not responsible must be submitted in writing to the chairperson of the selection committee by the beginning of the scheduled appointment and must be substantiated.

Application for the 1st semester

Admission to the 1st semester takes place once a year, in the winter semester. The application for the aptitude test for the following winter semester must be submitted online (in German) to LMU Munich School of Management in writing and in full by May 15 (cut-off deadline).

Application for a higher semester

In order to apply for a higher semester, you will need a placement certificate for the higher semester in addition to the application documents. This requires that for each semester which is to be credited, approx. 30 ECTS have been acquired in an equivalent Master's program and can be recognized. Please be sure to contact us in good time so that the assessment of the classification can take place before the application deadline (at least 4 weeks before the application deadline).

The application for the aptitude test for the respective following summer semester must be submitted in writing and in full to LMU Munich School of Management by January 15 and for the winter semester by May 15 (cut-off deadline).

Only applications that are complete and on time in the sense of the Statutes on Suitability for the Master's Degree Program in Business and Human Resource Education I (in German) (PDF, 36 KB)(in conjunction with the Amendment Statutes (in German) (PDF, 22 KB)) and Statutes on Suitability for the Master's Degree Program in Business and Human Resource Education II (PDF, 36 KB) (in conjunction with the Amendment Statutes (in German) (PDF, 24 KB)) have a legal right to be admitted to the further examination procedure for admission to the Master's Degree Program.

How high is the NC? What grade point average is required?

In addition to the admission requirements mentioned and described in detail above, no specific grade point average is required.

Applicants in field of study II who can present a grade point average of 1.0 or better from their first degree in business education (Bachelor WiPäd II) are directly classified as "suitable". This provision applies only to major II.

I have professional experience, will this be recognized in any way?

The above-mentioned admission requirements apply, which cannot be replaced, supplemented or completed by practical experience, since neither the learning objectives nor the competencies can be acquired through practical experience.

Can I make up missing WiPäd credits during the master's program?

The 15 ECTS required in WiPäd (WiPäd II) or 12 ECTS credits for the field of study I must be available at the time of application. Otherwise, the application will not be considered. The "making up" of missing achievements during the Master's program is therefore not possible, as admission to the Master's program cannot be granted due to the lack of fulfilled admission requirements. Admission subject to making up for missing basic requirements is also not possible.

I am a "career changer" who has already completed a master's degree or diploma program. Are there any special regulations?

The admission requirements apply to all applicants (see above). There are no special regulations.
