Ethics Committee

The Ethics Committee examines the ethical safety of scientific research projects.

Ethics approval must be obtained before any study activities begin.

This includes, but is not limited to, before any intervention, before data collection, and before contacting potential participants.

Retroactive approval is generally not permitted. Exceptions may only be granted by the Chair of the Ethics Committee and require a well-justified and compelling reason. This reflects good scientific practice: the Ethics Committee evaluates potential ethical risks for LMU before research is carried out.

About the Ethics Committee

The Ethics Committee is dedicated to examining and ensuring ethical standards in research projects and student work.

Its aim is to guarantee the protection of the participants, maintain scientific integrity and ensure that all research activities comply with the applicable ethical principles.

It reviews applications for potential risks and advises researchers on ethical issues in order to promote responsible and transparent research.

All members of the Faculty of Business Administration are eligible to apply.

Procedure of the Ethics Committee

fast-track procedure

  1. Submission of the application
The documents will be forwarded in full to the chair of the ethics committee.
  2. Preliminary assessment by the chairperson
This takes place promptly within a few days. Important: This phase does not replace an ethics vote.
  3. After this initial assessment, the study can be started at your own risk.
  4. Official ethics vote: Since the commission meets approximately 1–2 times per semester, the formal vote takes place with a delay of about 3–4 months. The result is only official after this meeting, and the ethical assessment, including the application number ("tracking ID"), is sent out at this time.

Regular procedure

In the regular process, sufficient lead time must be planned, as no work "at your own risk" is permitted.

Procedure:

  1. Submission of the complete application
The documents shall be sent to the chair.
  2. Ethics Committee meeting The committee meets approximately twice per semester, meaning that there are usually 3–4 months between the submission of an application and the meeting.
  3. Preparation of the ethics vote
The formal vote will only be issued after the meeting.
  4. Start of the study
The study may only begin after receipt of the official ethics vote.
