13 Nov 2024

Allianz Investment Management SE organised a workshop with selected top business administration students (B.Sc.) and participants of the MHP (M.Sc.) followed by a dinner.

On November 5, 2024, Allianz Investment Management SE continued its workshop series with selected top business students (B.Sc.) and participants from the MHP (M.Sc.) program, utilizing a proven format: a workshop followed by a dinner.

The afternoon began with a warm welcome from Dr. Bettina Wachtel and an introduction to AIM SE, where students gained insights into AIM’s central role within the Allianz organization.

Franziska Ehm (Global Head of Private Debt) introduced the asset class of private debt, explaining its unique role within the Allianz portfolio. She presented interesting examples of specific private debt transactions and how these are sourced within AIM. Her presentation concluded with an insightful discussion on current challenges and opportunities in this field.

To deepen the participants’ knowledge, Johannes Witter (Deal Structuring & Accounting Solutions) then presented an interactive case study on the valuation of private debt. In small groups, students were tasked with determining credit ratings and assessing a private debt instrument under various scenarios, such as market disruptions or defaults. The case study combined theoretical valuation models from university with the practical experience of a real private debt investor like Allianz.

To conclude, students had the opportunity to learn about career options and available positions.

In a relaxed atmosphere with an Italian dinner at the Allianz canteen, participants were able to further engage in discussion.

The event was very well-received, and we received consistently positive feedback from the students:

  • “I found it very exciting to gain insight into what a large investor like Allianz actually does with the funds, especially individual transactions in the private sector like solar parks or similar projects.”
  • “The case study reminded me a lot of my finance modules at university, where we had already covered some of the methodology. It was cool to actually apply it in a realistic scenario.”

The representatives from Allianz Investment Management also thoroughly enjoyed the event and are already looking forward to the next workshop!
