Evidence-backed advice on the current CSRD revision discussion
In light of the recent debate regarding the revision of the EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) our chair Thorsten Sellhorn, alongside Katharina Hombach (Goethe University Frankfurt) and Maximilian Müller (University of Cologne) provide evidence-backed advice to the European Commission on possible CSRD simplification strategies.
In their article, they discuss the need to reduce the over 1,000 data points mandated by the CSRD by focusing on the most material and impactful data for stakeholders while considering company size and reporting readiness. They further highlight the importance of targeting larger companies and tailoring reporting requirements to ensure proportionality and cost-efficiency. The authors suggest that a successful reform should prioritize materiality thresholds, core data points, and adjustments based on company characteristics to reduce reporting burdens while maintaining transparency.
