Together with Prof. Juliane Reinecke, Prof. Ali Aslan Gümüsay has published a new article on prospective theorizing.

In the face of an imminent planetary crisis, envisioning the future diverges from past patterns, posing a unique challenge for scholars. To address this, we advocate for prospective theorizing—a forward-looking approach focused on imagining desirable futures. This involves a shift from projection to imagination and from value-neutral to value-led theorizing. We propose practical methods for prospective theorizing and introduce the concept of speculative rigor for scientific evaluation. Overall, we argue that prospective theorizing enriches scholarly discourse by fostering the exploration of promising future scenarios.
