The Price of a Promise: Life Insurance and Germany's 2027 Pension Reform

In this session, Dr. Robert Rühl (die Bayerische) explores what Germany's 2027 pension reform means for life insurers built around the promise of a guarantee.

Germany's 2027 pension reform will remove the mandatory full contribution guarantee from Germany's state-subsidised private pension system. For decades, this guarantee has shaped product design, regulation and the public debate, although the market has already moved towards products with lower or no guarantees. The lecture examines what a guarantee is worth to customers, what it costs a life insurer to provide and who is ultimately willing to pay that price. Drawing on the perspective of a company with almost 170 years of experience in the German insurance market, it explores how life insurers can transform a business model built on security in a market that no longer requires it.

The lecture will be held in hybrid format. You can choose on-site or online participation.
