Title: AI Writing Assistants’ Influence on User Opinions
About the Talk:
AI writing assistants powered by Large Language Models (LLMs) are increasingly used to support people’s writing. Can they impact people’s opinions in this process? We exposed participants writing about important societal issues to an AI writing assistant that provided biased autocomplete suggestions. When using the AI assistant, participants’ attitudes in a post-task survey converged towards the AI’s position. In the talk, the speaker would report on a series of experiments on this novel form of influence and consider its wider societal implications.
