Master Human Resource & Education Management

The Institute offers two Master's programmes in Business Education (WiPäd). The Master of Science in Business Education I and II build on the two Bachelor's programmes in Business Education I and II. WiPäd I focuses on the business aspects, WiPäd II integrates various second subjects into the programme.

Within the framework of the diploma programme, students could already choose between the fields of study I and II.

While the field of study I is strongly oriented towards business administration, an integrated minor subject can be studied in the field of study II, which can be taught at a vocational school, for example. This structure will be continued in the new degree programmes.

General information for both fields of study

In terms of content, the emphasis is placed on a research orientation as early as in the courses of the first semester. Here, within the framework of research-oriented lectures and exercises, the fundamentals of methodology and new scientific findings are taught in a targeted manner, enabling students to carry out independent research projects. For the area of business education research, a further deepening takes place through targeted project work. Students can put the knowledge and skills they have acquired into practice in the other business education courses and in writing their master's thesis.

Since Human Resource Education & Management also prepares students for a possible later occupation at vocational schools, practical school studies are obligatory. Further reference to teaching activities is guaranteed by the project "University School" financed by the Bavarian State Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs.

Professional Perspectives

The professionally qualifying Master's program in Human Resource Education & Management I and II entitles students to enter the Studienseminar für kaufmännische Schulen, the so-called Referendariat. Graduates who do not pursue a career as a teacher find employment in management positions in the field of in-company training and further education or as speakers at business associations and chambers of commerce. In addition, WiPäd graduates often have similar career opportunities to their fellow students in the master's program in business administration, since they have enjoyed a sound education in business administration in addition to the business education content. The connection to research in all fields of economics is also given.

Application & Admission

Applications are open to all interested students who can present a first professional university degree in a business education subject or an equivalent degree from Germany or abroad. The Faculty of Business Administration examines the applications in a separate suitability procedure. It is important to have a very good knowledge of business education, business administration and economics as well as a very good command of written and spoken German and English. Furthermore, a high degree of cognitive abilities such as the ability to think abstractly and solve problems is required.

The eligibility procedure is conducted by a selection committee appointed by the Faculty Council of the Faculty of Business Administration.

1. Complete application within the deadline

Admission to the suitability procedure requires that all necessary documents are submitted in due time.

The complete application (incl. receipt of the written application at the Student Office) with proof of the required admission prerequisites (see point 4) must be submitted by May 15.

Accepted applicants will be invited to the entrance exam. If a GMAT test is available, it replaces the entrance exam. The result of the GMAT test must be submitted together with the other application documents.
Exception: Applicants who have submitted a diploma or transcript of records from a first degree program in Human Resource Education & Management II with an average grade of 1.0 or better will be classified as "suitable" and admitted directly to the selection interview. This regulation applies only to the field of study II.

2. Entrance exam

The entrance exam consists of six parts in total, which are asked in multiple-choice format (5-3-1 rule).

  • Research Methods (One Part)
  • HRE&M I (One Part)
  • HRE&M II (One Part)
  • HRE&M III (One Part)
  • Two out of six possible ABWLs (Risk Management, Corporate Accounting, Digital Enterprise, Competition and Strategy, People and Organization, International Management).

The underlying literature for the business education part as well as general information on the test procedure can be found in our information sheet (PDF, 130 KB)(as of 21.12.2022). The underlying literature for the two ABWLs that you can choose freely can be found in the information sheet (PDF, 148 KB) (as of 20.01.2023) for the Master's Entrance Examination for Business Administration. The examined ABWL part for the Master Business Education is identical to the ABWL part for the Master Business Administration.

This year's entrance exam will be held on 09 June 2023.

3. Selection interview

After passing the entrance exam or a GMAT test (≥ 600 points), applicants are invited to participate in a selection interview. The exact date of the interview will be announced by e-mail at least two weeks in advance.

Important note: Anyone who does not appear at the appointed time is considered to be ineligible. Reasons to justify the absence for which the candidate is not responsible must be submitted in writing to the chairperson of the selection committee by the beginning of the scheduled appointment and must be substantiated.

The admission decision to the master's program and, if applicable, information on enrollment will subsequently be communicated in writing.

Only applications that are complete in terms of the eligibility statutes and received by the deadline have a legal right to be included in the examination process for admission to the master's program.

Admission to the 1st semester takes place once a year, in the winter semester. The application for the aptitude test for the following winter semester must be submitted online in writing and in full to the Faculty of Business Administration by May 15 (cut-off deadline).

In case of an application for a higher semester, you will need a placement certificate for the higher semester in addition to the application documents. This requires that for each semester that is to be credited, approx. 30 ECTS have been acquired in an equivalent Master's program and can be recognized. Please be sure to contact us in good time so that the assessment of the classification can take place before the application deadline. The application for the aptitude test for the respective following summer semester must be submitted in writing and in full to the Faculty of Business Administration by January 15 and for the winter semester by May 15 (cut-off deadline).

Information about practical experience etc. does not meet the requirements and cannot be accepted.

  • If you are unsure whether your English skills can be recognized, please contact us well in advance of your application!

For foreign applicants:

Proof of a successfully completed German language test if neither the degree was completed in a German-language degree program nor the university entrance qualification was obtained in German. Information on language certificates recognized at LMU can be found here.

An unsuccessful eligibility procedure may be repeated once, but not earlier than the next enrollment date. A further repetition is excluded.

The standard period of study is 4 semesters, during which 120 ECTS points must be acquired. The maximum period of study is 6 semesters.

The costs for the Master's program result from the basic fee of the LMU and the additional fee for the semester ticket.

The admission requirements apply to all applicants (see above). There are no special regulations.
