The Munich Risk and Insurance Center (MRIC) is pleased to announce Dr. Johannes Maier as our new program coordinator.

The Munich Risk and Insurance Center (MRIC) is pleased to announce Dr. Johannes Maier as our new program coordinator. Johannes will guide the organization in its mission to foster a vibrant exchange between academia and industry.

In his academic education, Johannes attended the universities in Erfurt, Göttingen, Cambridge, and Berkeley. He obtained his PhD at LMU Munich (Department of Economics) in 2013 with the topic "Behavior under Risk and in Social Dilemmas: Theoretical and Experimental Approaches“. Since then, he has been an Assistant Professor at the Department of Economics at LMU Munich. Johannes’ theoretical and empirical research focuses on decisions under uncertainty, and he has lectured various courses on microeconomics, mathematics, game theory, and behavioral economics. Regarding his new position, he said: “I am very excited to help strengthen the ties between insurance companies and the scientific community at LMU Munich, training young professionals for both business and academic careers, and promoting exchange and research in the field of insurance and risk management in general.”

He will follow Dr. Stephanie Müller, who has been a pivotal member of the MRIC since its foundation in 2010. She has been instrumental in establishing the center as an interdisciplinary institution between academia and industry. Stephanie obtained her PhD at LMU Munich in 2016. The MRIC is thankful for all the work she has done for the MRIC and is glad to announce that she will continue to support the MRIC as a member of the advisory board. The MRIC team wishes her every success in her new job.

After two years of mostly virtual-only interaction, the MRIC is looking forward to once again offer various in-person events, such as research seminars, fireside chats, and brown bag seminars, to encourage an active exchange among practitioners and academics. This will be kicked off by the CEAR/MRIC Behavioral Insurance Workshop 2022. The MRIC will continue to foster its integral role in advancing insurance knowledge, enhancing insurance research, promoting young academics, and building connections between the insurance industry and the Munich School of Management. We are excited to pursue this mission under the new program coordination of Dr. Johannes Maier.
