BACHELOR THESIS

Application

You can apply for a thesis in one of our research areas. The allocation of bachelor theses at the IMM depends on the chair’s capacity.

If you are interested in taking over a thesis, please send

• the completed form Formular (PDF, 1.819 KB),
• your resume
• and a current transcript of your credit account from the LSF

to imm-abschlussarbeit@som.lmu.de.

Application approximately 6 weeks before the desired registration time. Once we receive your application materials, you will receive an automatic email confirming receipt. Your application will then be reviewed, and you will hear back from us within approximately 3 weeks at the latest.

Note: During unusual periods, such as the break between semesters or the Christmas holidays, there may be slight delays.

Topic statement

The specific topic will be assigned to you in a conversation with your contact person at the institute if you are accepted. Before your work is registered, an exposé of your topic is agreed upon, which serves as a guiding framework for the research for you thesis.

Bachelor Thesis in Collaboration with a Company

If companies are involved, additional guidelines apply. We will provide these to you if applicable. You must be aware of our guidelines for students and submit them, signed, to your assigned contact person at IMM before registering your thesis. Additionally, our practice guidelines apply. If necessary, they are sent to the company as a written document and must be signed by a company representative and a team member of our institute. We reserve the right to make internal decisions regarding the acceptance of self-selected topics.

Specifications

• Writing is possible in German and in English, but English is strongly recommended.
• Please follow the guidelines of the IMM (see below) and the ISC.
• Please submit open questions to imm-abschlussarbeit@som.lmu.de. If possible, please refrain from contacting us through other channels.

Colloquium

During thesis completion or official registration, all students participate in our colloquium, which takes place every two weeks on Wednesday evenings. Each student reports on the progress of their work one time in a presentation. We expect you to attend the colloquium dates, even if you are not presenting. If you are unable to attend, please inform your supervisor in time by email. The purpose of the colloquium is to receive feedback on the current status of your work and to clarify any open questions regarding the further course of the work. The presentation at the agreed-upon colloquium date is mandatory. This is followed by a question-and-answer session. The presentation is evaluated as "passed/failed".

Submission

Submit to the ISC by 12:00 p.m. (noon) on the day of submission. Please inform yourself independently about the submission modalities and possible changes at the ISC.

In addition to the final paper, all relevant datasets and supplementary materials must be submitted, including:
SPSS outputs, Excel files and charts, literature tables, questionnaires, special graphics and other relevant results.

MASTER THESIS

Application

Application approximately 6-8 weeks before the desired start of supervision. Once we receive your application materials, you will receive an automatic email confirming receipt. Your application will then be reviewed, and you will hear back from us within approximately 3 weeks at the latest.

Note: During unusual periods, such as the break between semesters or the Christmas holidays, there may be slight delays.

Topic statement

In the event of an acceptance, you will receive support in deriving a suitable research topic from your assigned contact person at the institut before registration, starting from the start of the support. The creation of the associated exposé usually takes at least 8 weeks, and only after that can the master’s thesis be officially registered. Please note that the time frame may vary depending on the chosen topic, the associated method, and other factors. Registration with the ISC is then done in consultation with the contact person at the IMM.

You can also suggest a research topic. To do this, please write an exposé (max. one page) and submit it along with the other required application documents. We reserve the right to make internal decisions regarding the acceptance of self-selected topics.

Master Thesis in Collaboration with a Company
