The Marshmallow Challenge in the "Creating Market Offerings" Course

On October 21st, in the "Creating Market Offerings" course with Prof. Jelena Spanjol, over 80 Business Administration students faced a challenge: build the tallest structure using spaghetti, tape, string, and marshmallows within 18 minutes.

We brought innovation to life with the Marshmallow Challenge, which wasn’t just about fun—it was about understanding prototyping in the Front End of Innovation. This hands-on experience allowed students to apply rapid prototyping techniques in a real-world scenario and revealed key insights into the innovation process. Students quickly learned that effective collaboration and open communication were crucial for success. Besides, failure became a learning tool, showing that rapid iteration and the ability to adapt are essential for progress. Some teams discovered that over-planning led to rushed execution, reinforcing the value of taking action and refining ideas along the way.
