Content and course objectives

AI and algorithms rapidly transform how organizations manage employees. For example, Uber uses AI to manage about 7 million drivers worldwide. In this seminar, we will delve into the emerging fields of Algorithmic Management and Algoactivism and their implications for organizations and society. Algorithmic management describes the use of algorithms to control and coordinate workers, whereas Algoactivism refers to movements by workers challenging and criticizing these practices.

The aim of the seminar is to understand how workers communicate with each other, and coordinate activities related to Algoactivism. We will provide you with a dataset from https://www.uberpeople.net/, a forum that is used by Uber drivers. You will work in small groups to derive theoretical and practical conclusions from people's online conversations in this forum. Using computationally intensive methods, you will learn how to analyze text datasets and identify latent topics in textual data.
