New Article by Prof. Tobias Kretschmer on "Hyperspecialization and Hyperscaling" published in the Strategic Management Journal

Gianluigi Giustiziero (Frankfurt Frankfurt School of Finance & Management), Tobias Kretschmer (LMU Munich), Deepak Somaya (U of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign), and Brian Wu (U of Michigan) have a new article published at Strategic Management Journal titled: "Hyperspecialization and Hyperscaling: A Resource-based Theory of the Digital Firm."

In this article, the authors examine the phenomenon of how digital firms tend to be both narrow in their vertical scope and large in their scale and posit that highly scalable resource bundles can explain this feature of digital firms. They use descriptive theory and formal modeling to shed light on the phenomenon of digital scaling, providing critical insight into how technology-enabled resources are reshaping firms in the digital economy.
