Institute of Innovation Management´s PhD candidate Kira Brinkmann presented the paper “Navigating Dual Fires: Passion Dynamics and Venture Consequences in Entrepreneurship” at the 2026 Babson College Entrepreneurship Research Conference. The 46th BCERC, widely considered the world’s premier entrepreneurship research conference, was hosted by the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa from June 3–6, 2026.
Together with Dr. Esther Salvi from IMD and Prof. Dr. Jelena Spanjol, the Head of Institute of Innovation Management, the study explores how entrepreneurs navigate two demanding but unrelated passions: building their venture and volunteering in emergency response. Based on interviews with 30 entrepreneurs, the research shows how identity, the meaning attributed to volunteering, the boundaries between both roles, and dual passion management shape whether dual passions become a source of strength or strain for the venture.
