The faculty welcomes Prof. Dr. Daniel Obermeier as interim director of the Institute for Strategy, Technology, and Organization.
On April 1, 2026, the faculty welcomes Prof. Dr. Daniel Obermeier. He will serve as acting director for Prof. Dr. Tobias Kretschmer until September 30, 2030, and will lead the Institute for Strategy, Technology, and Organization in this capacity.
Prior to joining the LMU Munich School of Management, Daniel Obermeier was an assistant professor of information systems at the Nova School of Business and Economics at Universidade NOVA de Lisboa. Other stages of his academic career took him to NYU Stern as a visiting scholar and postdoctoral researcher. He earned his Ph.D. at the Technical University of Munich, where he participated in the Research Excellence Program and was awarded the TUM Best Dissertation Award in 2023.
His research focuses on how new technologies are reshaping economic forces on digital platforms and redefining forms of platform governance. In his current work, he specifically examines the impact of blockchain and artificial intelligence on digital platforms, employing a wide range of causal inference methods.
His research has been published in MIS Quarterly, among other venues. In addition, Obermeier regularly presents his work at leading international conferences in information systems and management research, including the International Conference on Information Systems, the Conference on Information Systems and Technology, the Workshop on Information Systems and Economics, the Annual Conference of the Strategic Management Society, and the Annual Meeting of the Academy of Management.
With his research focusing on digital platforms, new technologies, platform governance, and organizational design, Prof. Dr. Daniel Obermeier provides important impetus for research and teaching at the faculty.
