From “Desirable future scenarios and prospective theory formation” to “Technology in finance – milliseconds, markets, and minds: past, present, future” in one evening.

On Wednesday evening, Prof. Dr. Ali Aslan Gümüşay and Prof. Dr. Ryan Riordan gave their inaugural lectures in the faculty's Frescensaal. The festive event was well attended by many invited guests. Dean Prof. Dr. Markus Glaser opened the event with introductory remarks and introduced the speakers and topics of the lectures.

Prof. Dr. Ali Aslan Gümüşay gave a lecture on “Desirable Futures & Prospective Theorizing,” asking what role science will play in the future and what methods can be used to form effective theories. He also explained how companies' research and goals could be redesigned to promote social impact.

Ali Aslan Gümüşay is Professor of Innovation, Entrepreneurship & Sustainability and Head of the Chair of the same name at the LMU Munich School of Management and Research Group Leader for Innovation, Entrepreneurship & Society at the Humboldt Institute for Internet and Society in Berlin. He is also a member of the board of the VHB and the LMU IEC.

Prof. Dr. Ryan Riordan gave a lecture on “Technology in Finance - Milliseconds, Markets and Minds: Past, Present, Future,” highlighting the transmission of information from the past to the present day and placing it in the context of the development of the financial market. In doing so, he raised the question of the value of future trading.

Prof. Dr. Ryan Riordan is Professor of Financial Innovation & Technology and Director of the institute of the same name. Since 2021, Riordan has also been a professor at the Smith School of Business at Queen's University, Canada, where he heads the Institute for Sustainable Finance and founded the Master's program in Financial Innovation & Technology.

Following the two lectures, the dean thanked the two professors and all those present for their attention and interest. He emphasized the favorable conditions at LMU Munich School of Management for their further research work and invited everyone to a reception.

The inaugural lectures were a complete success, the research results presented were interesting, and the discussions that followed at a get-together buffet were informal and stimulating.
